That encourages them to become WoW, to become Blizzard. But if you're a fan of the game, simply accepting "whatever" isn't being a fan. No one is saying that MMOs don't need maintenance. No one is saying that stuff shouldn't break. But comparatively, since Heavensward's release, the game has had as much maintenance as larger MMOs have in a month/month and a half but still ended up needing a sudden, emergency maintenance. I wouldn't have bought it and the xpac and be subbed to it if I didn't. If you look at it objectively, since the release of Heavensward, there's only been a single week where there was normal maintenance (1 day, scheduled maintenance). It's absolutely something that can be done, but it's just not worth it most the time. I mean, sure, I'd love to see no downtime but I work as a sysadmin/dev. Pretty sure this person lives in an imaginary world and doesn't understand what is involved in, well, /anything/ and just likes to complain. Truly doing 100% seamless upgrades where you never see downtime due to them (potentially even hardware failure and automatically getting reconnected to a mirror instance) is a lot of extra work that isn't required. You can't take the database offline, internal backend servers may need to support multiple protocol versions at once, bugs could be exploitable still if you're on the old version, etc, etc. It can be done, but there are so many associated complications that it's really not worth it most likely.

Run two versions in parallel, doesn't boot you but forces you to upgrade an old client if you try to login fresh. It should auto-update when they log off! (. They'd be the best devs ever, probably) Also they shouldn't be doing downtimes at all.

They're actually doing an amazing job, too - they've got a fairly good test procedure to produce patches that for the most part are bug free and almost completely free of major bugs if their devs could pull this off without testing. they play VERY off-hours)! Squeenix devs suck due to all these bugs! Squeenix needs to test things first like everyone else does with a PTR (. There's someone in all my LS who is bitching so much about all these maintenances. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding. Please be advised that you will be unable to make reservations for Ceremonies of Eternal Bond from the time maintenance ends until Jul. The World Transfer Service will be suspended 15 minutes before the maintenance, and will be unavailable until maintenance has ended. Adjustments to gatherer/crafter, including “red crafters' scrip” and ”red gatherers' scrip”, will be implemented in the maintenance scheduled on Jul. Patch 3.05 will be implemented in two separate maintenances. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XIV will be unavailable.
